This year has flown by, I can't believe it's time for Halloween again! We have two little guys to dress up this year. I love picking out kids costumes each year, so much fun! I thought I would take advantage of having a coordinating costume theme one more year since they are too young to be opinionated on what they would like to be.
When I saw the Popeye & Swee' Pea costumes on AnytimeCostumes.com website I knew it would be perfect for the boys. Anytime Costumes generously sent both the costumes to us and got here very quickly. I couldn't wait to see what they would look like in the costumes. The costumes came with all the necessary pieces to look the part of the characters but I just had to have a spinach can prop so I made those. You can read my tutorial here on how to make it.
Cole got to try on the Infant Bunting Swee' Pea costume. This is such a sweet costume for a baby! It is a one piece bunting made of soft, bright red polyester fabric. There is a long strip of velcro on the back that secures the costume on very well. The white cuffs and collar give it a nice crisp clean look. The white hat and black detail top off the costume as the prefect accessory. Cole is 6 months and it definitely fit him well.
Ethan got to try on the Toddler Popeye Costume. The color scheme and style are just like the Popeye character. We love the bright colors of this costume. It was very easy to get on and off because the shirt, collar, pants, belt and arm pieces were completely separate from each other. The arm pieces are made of a thin foam type material that will hold their shape well. It really completes the Popeye look! Ethan is a size 4t in length & 3t in weight and the costume fits great.
Overall, I am so pleased with this years costume choices. Once again, Anytime Costumes has been wonderful to work with and they only stock well quality costumes. Prices are always reasonable and shipping is fast.

Prefolds and covers are one of my favorite cloth diapering options. I have experienced that it's the only method that works 100% to prevent leaks and blow outs on my newborns. In fact I ended up exclusively using them for the first couple of months with Cole. Nothing was working on my little super soaker man except for prefolds and covers!
I know that not a lot of cloth diapering parents have even tried prefolds maybe because they may be intimidated by folding techniques or just using the method at all. I can assure you they are the most simplest and easiest diapering options out there. I'm convinced every cloth diapering parent needs a few prefolds and covers in their stash for a few good reasons.
Anytime my baby has developed a diaper rash I can put him in prefolds and covers for the day and usually the rash clears up within a day! (sometimes with a little help of diaper cream as well, but I haven't always used this)
It's a great back up option for when you need to strip your whole diaper stash.
It does not hold the stink like microfiber or other man made fabrics used in some diapers. I have never had to strip a prefold!

We were sent the Boy print, Rocket, in the Baby size to try out. The 3 prefolds are really soft and thick. I like the fact they are a natural unbleached organic cotton so they hide stains. The bright red rocket cover is the cutest wrap I have ever seen! All I own is solid gender neutral colors so it is a real treat to own a cute boy print cover. Nothing is more boyish than rockets on a red cover!
Cole was close to 15 pounds when we received the kit and I started using it right away. I only had to fold down the prefold a tad in the front. He is about 18 pounds in the current photo where I am using the Snappi to secure the prefold on him. You do not need a Snappi to use the BeautifulBASIC kit, in fact, it is advertised as a trifold placed into the cover to make it more simple.
The prefold is super absorbent and it is really bullet proof combined with the wrap. The material on the wrap is very pliable. The thickness of the wrap is just right, not too thick or too thin. I've owned wraps before that were not the right thickness and they were always a headache because of constant leaks or from a too bulky material. My favorite feature of the wrap is the leg elastic. Obviously Cole is chunky and it fits well around his waist and legs without cutting into him or leaving red marks. The elastic provides adequate amount of give around the legs to give a secure, leak-proof fit.
We have used the BeautifulBASIC 2- piece kit multiple times both day and night. I have not had any trouble with leaks and it supplies great absorption. This is the second Bummis item for me to review (see my Easy Fit review, I still love this diaper!) and I am not surprised that the BeautifulBASIC 2- piece kit has the same awesome quality and style. I have reviewed several products from Tropical Traditions and have always been impressed with the quality and price. It is the only place I buy my coconut oil from! I was sent the 5 lb bag of Certified Organic Soft White Winter Wheat Whole Grain. These wheat berries are lower in protein and in gluten so it makes a lighter flour. In other terms this is usually known as Pastry Flour which is great for baked goods because it creates a lighter product. Sometimes using just using a whole wheat flour ground from hard wheat berries yields a heavier baked good and as a result looks or tastes "gummy".
These gorgeous soft white berries ground up to a beautiful light flour. The flavor is wonderful as well. I have used this pastry flour in a variety of items such as my whole wheat rolls, "pop tarts", fruit breads and cookies. I also tried using the pastry flour to make tortillas and a pie crust but didn't have great results, the flour is too fine. I found that using half pastry flour and half of my regular organic hard white wheat was the best combo when baking. This pastry flour has now become a staple in my pantry.

Eating plenty of whole grains is so important to our health and studies are continuously proving this fact. By eating fruits and veggies soon after harvest you will reap the maximum amount of vitamins and minerals from the produce before it starts to break down. It is also just important to have freshly ground grains for the same reasons. When I started eating and cooking healthier for me and my family I became more educated on these whole food nutrition basics and an electric grain mill quickly found its way on my must have kitchen item list. I would like to share a few of these whole food facts so you will understand the importance of fresh grains for your whole family.

Every time I go to the grocery store or see a new food commercial on TV I cringe because the new marketing tactic is all about slapping "whole grains" on lots of processed foods that, in my opinion, have no truth to them. Businesses know the "whole grain" food market is a huge and they are cashing in on it. Sadly, the majority of our society does not understand whole food nutrition and what these processed products contain or do not contain. Packaged foods contain added vitamins and minerals because the 'whole grain' used in the products were not made with whole wheat berry. These also typically contain preservatives. When purchasing whole wheat flour you are buying a flour that has been stripped of the germ so it has a longer shelf life at the grocery store. Even though the flour does not contain the germ, you may not know that flour has turned rancid before you even purchase it. How can your body benefit from these processed products??
Don't you agree what our children eat is even more important? One of baby's "first foods" that most parents give their baby is rice cereal. Lets take a look at the nutrition label of the popular brand of rice cereal.

I think the label speaks for itself loaded with preservatives and products that could more than possibly be GMOs (Genetically Modified Organism)! How can your baby's body benefit from these processed products?

I was so excited when WonderMill said they would send me their electric grain mill to review! I received the mill the month after I had my baby, which was the perfect time. My body was trying to recover from having a baby and I was breastfeeding so I needed the best nutrition possible. Fresh grains to bake and cook with would really help my body receive the nutrition needed. I made a trip to the health food store and bought a few pounds of organic whole wheat white berries to grind.
There are 3 settings to grind flour, Pastry, Bread or Course. I set my WonderMill on the 'bread' setting to run through my wheat berries because I planned on making tortillas with the flour.
I turned out the machine and was surprised it wasn't as loud as I was expecting. I slowly poured in the wheat berries and it did not take it long to grind the 3 cups of berries I poured into the hopper.
After the WonderMill was finished I opened up the canister to find the most beautiful soft fresh flour! I also enjoyed the aroma of warm, freshly ground flour. The fresh flour made delicious tortillas that night!
Since the initial use of the WonderMill, I have used it numerous times in my kitchen. For some reason, I thought that grinding flour whenever I needed it would be time consuming. It has been far from that! It only takes me a couple of minutes to get the WonderMill out of my pantry and for it to grind up a couple cups of wheat berries. I typically grind enough to last me 3 or 4 days and keep the freshly ground flour in an air tight BPA free plastic container in the fridge.
It has been wonderful to have fresh flour when I need it. I am still experimenting with grinding different types of grains and what baked goods to include them in. I have seen a huge difference in the quality and taste of my baked goods from using fresh ground flour. Knowing that I am also getting the best nutrition from grinding my own flour is just a bonus. My baby just turned 5 months old so it won't be much longer until he will start to eat some solid foods. I'm so happy to have the grain mill in order to grind fresh whole grain cereals for him! Be on the lookout in the near future of recipes I will be posting for "Babies First Cereals".
Grinding my own organic whole wheat flour is also saving me a lot of money! I was purchasing my whole wheat berries at a large chained health food store in the bulk food section, but recently purchased a 25 lb bag of berries from a health food co-op at more than 50% savings! Definitely do some checking where the best price for purchasing whole grains in your area. A grain mill can quickly pay for itself.

My Thoughts
I first heard about the book, Unplanned, when Tyndale announced on Facebook about the filming of a documentary and could not wait until it was released. Now I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Tyndale blog tour for the Unplanned DVD! As soon as I received the DVD in the mail I watched it as soon as the boys were down for their nap. I was completely amazed by Abby Johnson's story. She grew up in a Christian home that was clearly pro-life. Johnson had her first abortion at age 19 or 20 while she was in college by the suggestion of her older boyfriend. It was then that marked the turning point about her view of abortion. The next step was when she came across a Planned Parenthood booth at a function. After talking to the lady at the booth Johnson became involved in Planned Parenthood as a volunteer. Johnson describes her work as a volunteer and how her life became more involved into Planned Parenthood and what they stood for. I think the most incredible part of her story is how you can see the small instances of contact with the Coalition of Life during her work at Planned Parenthood planted small seeds for what would ultimately happen in 2009. It is awesome to see God's power and work through Abby Johnson. Her story gives hope to all of us Christians who continue to pray and reach out to others in all aspects of our lives.

I'm always looking for unique Boy's clothing for Ethan and Baby Clothes for Cole. When I shop for boy clothes at most major department stores the selection is quite limited. To me it's important to have a few nice pieces of clothing for them to wear when we go to a nice restaurant and to church as well as when I want to take some memorable photos for the scrapbook. Tea sent us 3 sets of clothes that are just adorable! In this first photo Ethan is wearing the Escarabat Graphic Tee and Long Cargo Shorts in the Army color. The beetle on this shirt is definitely eye catching and really makes an all-boy style statement. The Long Cargo Shorts feature large button pockets on the sides and the army color makes the coordinating color in the shirt pop.
Here he is wearing the Valenti Stripe Polo and the Cut Off Cord Pants. The collared polo gives this outfit a more casual feel. Both the shirt and the pants are really soft and has more subdued coloring than the other sets he is wearing.
The last set Ethan is wearing the Lagarto Graphic Tee and the Patch Pocket Shorts in Army color. This Barcelona inspired lizard tee is just so cute! I love the bright teal color it is so vibrant. The Patch Pocket Shorts are very soft and a thinner material than the cargo shorts making them ultra comfortable to be active in.
I love all three sets from Tea and I am extremely impressed with the quality of the clothing. In my opinion one aspect that stands out in particular with their clothing is how soft it is. No child enjoys wearing clothing that is itchy or stiff and Tea clothing is far from that. Also, the clothing is machine washable which I greatly appreciate! What mom has the time to wash certain clothing separate and with special care? Of course the uniqueness of Tea clothing is what sets their clothing apart from typical children clothing. This makes for really cute photos!

A good set of high quality cookware is one of the most important items you will first purchase when moving into your first home or planning to get married and will need household essentials. When it comes to deciding on what cookware to purchase or put on a wedding registry, remember the saying, "You get what you pay for." is very true! My Fagor Experience!
Fagor sent me their 7 piece cast aluminum cookware set for review. This set is made from a durable cast aluminum that provides a non stick coating that won't peel, chip or crack and can be used on gas, electric or induction cooktops. The pans feature extra long handles and can be removed for easier storage if needed. The pots have light weight lids which are oven safe to make cooking and baking easier going from stove top to oven.

11" Shallow Casserole with glass lid (3.5qt)
9.5 Stock Pot with glass lid (5 qt)
8.5" Grill Pan with Stainless Steel handle
6.5" Sauce Pan with Stainless Steel handle (1.5qt)
My cookware I currently have is the set I received from my parents for a wedding gift 7 years ago. It is a heavy duty stainless steel set and has held up wonderfully. We had a couple of non stick pieces of cookware, but like most non stick cookware they quickly got scratched and the coating started to peal. I have missed having non stick cookware for cooking certain types of meals because it makes clean up easier. It has been great to have some non stick cookware once again.
When I received the Fagor Cast Aluminum Cookware set I first off noticed how light weight the pieces were yet the material appeared to be very durable and not thin. The first piece of cookware I tried out was the grill pan. I made a grilled cheese on it and it turned out fabulous! The grill pan left "grill marks" on the sandwhich and made the most crispy grilled cheese sandwhich I have made. This grill pan is also great for making hamburgers or grilling porkchops because you can easily drain the extra fat off while cooking. The other pots and pans have worked great and none of my foods have stuck to the cookware and cooked evenly. My only complaint would be that the handles are a little long. The handles are fine if you don't have children, but you if do have little children you have to make sure they are pointed toward the back of the stove to prevent little hands from getting to them. Overall I am really enjoying this cookware set from Fagor. It is definitely a high quality non stick set that will last. I think this would be a perfect starter set for anyone getting married and starting their own home. Since my husband is a home builder we will be building yet another personal house soon, I will be looking at the Fagor appliances to put in our home.
