4. We don't pay for advertising.
5. We limit ourselves to what we know that we can do ourselves instead of trying to be 'too big' of a company.

Our Spindle to Sashes Experience!

I was excited when Spindle to Sashes sent me their One Size Fits All Cloth Diaper Velcro sewing pattern to try out for my One Size Diaper Event. I have tried numerous times in the past to sew various types of cloth diapers from different patterns. You can read about my experience plus see a great list of sources for materials on my guest post at HappilyDomestic.

I received the One Size Fits All Cloth Diaper Velcro by email and it was easy to print out and assemble the pattern together. First, I read through the pattern to make sure I had all the materials I needed. The pattern was very simple to understand. I still had left over PUL from previously sewing diapers. I picked up some elastic and 1/2 inch velcro at a local store. The pattern calls for 1 1/2 inch velcro, but the store was out. However, when sewing this pattern I highly recommend using Aplix which is a better brand than Velcro. You can find a list of resources that sell Aplix on my guest post.

The diaper was easy to cut and piece together. I was able to sew it with no problems. However, I did mess up with the elastic in the legs although you really can't tell from the pictures. The finished product turned out good and functional (just don't look too closely at the workmanship!). I am happy to find a one size pattern that fits Ethan well and doesn't require a snap press.

My Favorite Features of the Spindle to Sashes One Size Fits All Velcro Sewing Pattern!
  • Very simple! I didn't find myself scratching my head and saying "huh? do what?" like I do with typical sewing patterns.
  • Great affordable price.
  • The pattern uses velcro (aplix) which is a great way for anyone to start sewing cloth diapers since there is no investment with a snap press.

            AMP One Size Duo Diaper Review & Giveaway

            ~~~THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED~~~
            About AMP Diapers!
            Information from website.
            My name is Annie and I am a mom to five great children, Miranda my sweet 15 year old daughter, Max my sensitive 7 year old, Liam is 5, he's my little charmer, my tiny little Nyah is 2 she is such a busy and fun little girl and my little Abby was born April 2009 she is a true gift and is loved by all.
            As a new mom in the 90's I tried cloth diapers more than once and failed each time. I wanted to use cloth but lacked the support and information I needed to be successful. I first successfully made the switch to cloth in 2003 when my oldest son was just a tiny newborn. I started out with hand me downs that a friend gave me, I had to repair these diapers on a regular basis because they'd been bleached, the fabric was falling apart and the edges against the baby's skin were stiff and seamed a little uncomfortable. I finally bought some new diapers from a department store, I thought this was the perfect solution and I was thrilled. The department store diapers were a disappointment they were not absorbent, they stuck to each other in the wash and didn't even fit right, so that's when I got sewing. I came up with many different models of diapers before I came up with some easy to use, easy to wash and comfortable diapers for my baby. Some friends urged me to make some for them and a company was born. The company grew so quickly it took us a few years for us to catch our breath and realize that we had made something wonderful, something that is better for our planet, for babies and saves parents a lot of money.
            I call them Annie Marie Padorie's (which is what my grandfather used to call me). I'm so happy to be able to offer them to other cloth diapering families.  I no longer sew all the diapers myself, I now have a wonderful team of men and women that work very hard at making the highest quality products possible. Every AMP diaper is made in our own factory right here in Canada our employees make a fair wage and work in comfortable and safe working conditions.
            About the AMP One Size Duo Diaper!
            The new AMP one size Duo pocket diaper (patent pending) is a revolutionary new diaper that combines both the benefits of the AI2 diaper and the pocket diaper all in a one size. The intelligent snap placement allows this diaper to have three different rise options and multiple tummy and thigh settings for a custom fit from birth to potty training (7-35lbs). The outer waterproof layer is a soft durable laminated PUL and the inside is a dreamy soft layer of custom milled stay dry fleece that is designed to wick wetness away and keep baby dry and comfortable. The envelope opening is large enough for easy stuffing and is placed at the front of the diaper to make removing the insert easy and mess free.
            To use snap the rise adjusting snaps to the appropriate setting and place insert inside the diaper. Place the diaper under baby and fasten the tummy and thigh snaps at a snug but comfortable position.
            To use this diaper as an All in two diaper, place the insert on top of the fleece making sure that the absorbent insert is between the elastic gathers instead of placing the insert inside of the envelope opening. If the diaper is still dry replace the absorbent insert with a dry one and re-use the diaper.
            Watch this informative video about how to adjust sizes in the AMP One Size Duo Diaper & the different inserts.
            Our AMP One Size Duo Diaper Experience!
            AMP sent me the One Size Duo Diaper in orange and aqua. I just love the bright colors I received, very pretty. The AMP One Size Duo Diaper has a very soft outer PUL and microfleece inner layer. The AMP One Size Duo Diaper is different from any other diaper because you stuff the insert through the front of the diaper. There is a nice wide "flap" where you stuff the insert into the diaper and fold back over. The flap lies down smoothly. Having the opening in the front is such a great idea. On all my diapers with the opening in the back I'm always having to tuck the flap down after I get the diaper on Ethan.
                       **click on photo to enlarge**
            Another thing I love about the AMP One Size Duo Diaper is the elastic in the top of the diaper. I am able to achieve a nice tight fit around Ethan's skinny tummy. On some snap diapers I have a difficult time getting a good fit around the legs, but not with this diaper. The two rows of snaps on top and the great elastic through the legs gets a great fit all around on Ethan.
            The inserts with the AMP One Size Duo Diaper are superb. There are several hemp and bamboo inserts to choose from depending the absorption need of your baby. I fell in love with the AMP bamboo insert. It is so soft and smooth. The bamboo insert absorbs a ton! I like having the insert flat to where I can fold it to the size I need to fit the diaper and it dries much faster when I put it in the drier. In the photo Ethan is wearing the orange diaper with two inserts and the aqua with one insert.
            Overall I am super impressed with the construction, function and options of the AMP One Size Duo Diaper. Ethan as worn them a few times now and we have not had any leaks or problems. I find myself reaching for this diaper first if I see it in my clean diaper basket :-)
            Our Favorite Features of the AMP One Size Duo Diaper!
            • The huge selection of beautiful colors.
            •  The bamboo insert absorbs very well & is super soft.
            • The front insert opening!
            • Achieves a really great fit than most other snap diapers.
            BUY IT! You can purchase directly at the AMP Diaper Store.
                      Project 365: Day 28
                      I'm posting this picture for  comical reasons. (I hope you don't think this is TMI!). I thought Andrew and I had escaped Ethan's stomach virus that he had a couple of day ago. Why on earth did I think that?? Yesterday afternoon it hit us both at the same time. Andrew called his parents to come get Ethan for the night (his first night away from us!) and we both took Phenergren and Imodium. Let me just say this is the first time I've gotten a stomach bug that this stuff didn't work! I just dragged myself out of bed an hour ago and trying to get myself re-hydrated.
                      Sorry again about the delays with my giveaways, I almost had one to post when this hit. I will have it up shortly.
                      General Mills Reduced Sugar Cereals
                      General Mills recently announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12 to single digit grams of sugar per serving.  The company has already been reducing sugar in cereals while increasing key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.
                      I am so happy to hear this because the majority of our breakfasts are cereal! Ethan loves Cheerios, but I have also added some of the other General Mills cereals to change it up some. Ethan is not a big breakfast eater and since our mornings are pretty busy I want something that will keep his tummy happy for a while.
                      Did you know that ready-to-eat cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters?  Cereals also deliver important vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, making cereal a top source of key nutrients in children’s diets.
                      Other cereal benefits:
                      ·         Ready-to-eat cereals, including presweetened cereals, account for only 5% of sugar in children’s diets.
                      ·         Ready-to-eat cereal is the No. 1 source of whole grains in a child’s diet today.
                      ·         More frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights and lower Body Mass Index measures.
                      Studies also demonstrate the benefits of eating breakfast.  A 1998 study showed that children who eat breakfast tend to perform better at school. Compared to children who skip breakfast, children who eat breakfast score higher on tests, are less likely to miss class or be tardy, have fewer reported discipline problems, and make fewer trips to the office.
                      For more information about kids and cereals, please visit Cereal Health and Wellness.
                      Right now if you visit here you will find a $1 off coupon for one of four General Mills cereals.
                      Project 365: Days 15-24
                      Catch up time! Since I've been out of town I'm posting several pictures at once.I will be posting separately about my trip so I won't do duplicate pics. I just borrowed my dads old 35mm slr camera and have been experimenting with that for the last couple of days. I know nothing about photography and trying to teach myself a little. He has several lenses with his camera so it will take me a while to figure this stuff out. If anyone knows of any great websites out there that are easy to understand please share!
                      I just finished up my first roll of film and took it in to be put on a CD. I hope at least some of the pictures are decent. I'll be posting some of those for my 365 Project. I'm ready for spring so I can practice on my roses!
                      Day 15
                      Daddy bopping him on the head at supper with the pot holder :-)
                      Day 16
                      Waiting for Daddy to open the door.
                      Day 17
                      Our first day on the road. Ethan got to color for the first time at the restaurant that night!
                      Day 18
                      The day our ship left Galveston for the Caribbean!
                      Day 19
                      I lost my camera Monday night! I couldn't find it for 2.5 days and had to purchase a pack of disposable cameras for our first port day. Guess where I found the camera?? Right where it was supposed to be in my bag, but I swear I never could find it LOL. I'm not blond, I promise! This was our "Fun Day at Sea" so I really didn't miss taking anything interesting.
                      Day 20
                      Port Day in Progresso, Mexico
                      Day 21
                      Port Day at Cozumel, Mexico
                      Day 22
                      Second "Fun Day at Sea". I think Ethan was getting cabin fever :-)
                      Day 23
                      Ship docked at 8:00 a.m. Time to go home! Enjoying a cheetos snack!
                      Day 24
                      Ethan with his cousin. It is cousin's birthday!
