About Nifty Nappy!
Information from website
I started using cloth diapers with my first baby. These were a simple fitteds made with flannel and a bulky soaker sewn inside. They had velcro closures and we used those nasty plastic pants. I used these for my first two, but my second child had really sensitive skin. At one point when she was about 9 months old she got a really bad rash and we just couldn’t clear it up. Our Dr. finally suggested that we go back to disposables at least until the rash cleared up. We did this and then when we started to try to use our cloth again we had rash immediately. We got rid of our cloth and our little boy, #3, was all disposables. After I had started with #4 I met a gal that had a pocket diaper that I figured I could make up, so I spent some $$ and got a snap press and material and made me some diapers. I loved them. They had PUL and we stuffed them with microfiber cloths. They worked pretty well and we had some rashes, but usually if I put some stuff on it it would clear up. I used these same diapers for #5 too. With #6 on the way I was worried about my diapers because they were starting to leak a little around the legs. (I now know that this is because of the method of sewing and I have fixed that!) I went looking for something more absorbent. I found WOOL!!!! Whoo-hoo! I love wool.
Then with the freedom of wool I moved on to better fabrics too. I discovered Organic Hemp and Bamboo. They are wonderful and absorbent. They are antibacterial and anti-microbial. It is also a huge plus that they are organic. Also I do have certificates to show that these are organic that I can produce if anyone feels they need to see these.
After I got the good fabrics I started looking into diaper shapes. I wanted to make the best diaper possible with the expensive fabrics I had just bought. I stayed with the basic shape of before, but I changed where the snaps land. I went from side snaps to front snaps. It makes it easier to fit more sizes and also the flaps don’t need to be tucked down in the diaper, which they did with the side snaps. I liked the shape of my diaper. I liked how it tucks under the babies tummy and is a trim fit without a bulge in the front. It doesn’t have a saggy bum either. I really like the trim fit so it looks natural.
So keeping the shape and changing where the snaps land, I looked into changing the way that I sewed them up. From the PUL pockets that I had made and used I learned that if you make all the seams inside the diaper then the edges will wick the moisture from the inside to the outside of the diaper. I figured if I serged all the edges then there would be nothing to pull the moisture out. The elastic is enclosed so that there is no irritation for the baby’s legs. There is also elastic in the back to help with fitting for smaller babies. Along with a folding technique, they are now a fabulous one size diaper!

How does Wool Work?
Wool is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, which helps it not to retain odors and a natural fire retardant. It can absorb up to 40% of its weight in liquid and it allows the body to breathe. These qualities of wool make it an excellent choice for a natural and oh so comfy diaper cover. Cost savings $$$ - PANTS and DIAPER COVER in one! Wool has the wonderful ability to regulate body temperature, it will keep your child warm in winter and cool in summer. Making it the perfect choice for diaper covers any time of the year. Used for generations! IMPORTANT: Wool is only as effective as the amount of absorption you have underneath the cover. The wool needs time to "react" or time to be able to absorb and breathe. If not enough absorption is used then cover will not work as well and you will feel wetness. I use wool for my children and just love using a natural product that has all of these amazing qualities - my children totally enjoy using wool covers, so much more comfy than any other kind of cover - your babies will thank you! You must wash/re-lanolize your cover every few weeks, (or when poo'd on) depending on use. Please allow to air dry between uses.
About the Nifty Nappy One Size Woolie Wraps!
This is a Woolie Wrap. It is a wool diaper cover that you snap on instead of pull up. They are convenient for smaller babies. Also they will fit a wider range of babies. Paired with a Nifty Nappy they are practically bullet proof and leave the baby’s bum well ventilated!
The outside layer of my Woolie Wraps are made from upcycled Wool sweaters I find at thrift stores. I am very picky about my wool and you won’t find any that are less than 80% wool with only natural fibers. They are also very soft. If I wouldn’t wear it then the baby shouldn’t be wearing it!
I am excited to introduce an improvement to the Woolie Wrap -I know hard to imagine it could get better right? Well they can! I am now making the inside layer with 100% wool interlock. This is very absorbent and soft, and as an added bonus the snaps will be more stable.
Since I make my wool covers from thrift store sweaters I can’t list Fabric Selections. If you will pick a gender though, I will make an appropriate cover for you.

I was fascinated when I ran across Nifty Nappy products. Vilate, owner of Nifty Nappy, has a great selection of diapers, covers and wraps made with various materials. WAHM products are wonderful because they are like having custom diapers made just for your baby.I was sent a gorgeous red Woolie Wrap for Ethan to try out. I was really happy to get to try out a Woolie Wrap since we've been having some leaking issues at night off and on now that Ethan is sleeping through the night (yes, finally!). Even from using double inserts we still have leaking issues because it just can't hold it all. Nothing is more frustrating that waking up to a wet spot in the bed and having to wash sheets all the time.
First off, I love the red color and the fact that is is made from an upcycled wool sweater. Vilate has done such a professional job at turning a sweater into a great looking wrap. The Woolie Wrap is incredibly soft and not scratchy at all. I paired up the Woolie Wrap with a couple different brands of fitted diapers I have for nighttime use. The Woolie Wrap fits great on Ethan around his waist and legs. I'm pleased to say we haven't had any issues with leaks! Sometimes the wrap feels slightly damp on the inside when I take it off, but I just hang it up to dry and all the moisture and smell vanishes during the day. Wool is really amazing!
I highly suggest all cloth diaper parents to try out wool whether it is the Wrap, Soakers or Knickers. Don't let the excuse of leaks keep you from cloth diapering or continue to cloth diaper!
